SEARCH25 is a project funded under the JISC Grant Funding 13/11: Digital Infrastructure: Information and Library Infrastructure - Resource Discovery Programme and the lead institution is Royal Holloway, University of London.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic individual to join the project team (based in the Bedford Library, RHUL), to assist with project communications and user testing/evaluation of the prototype service. SEARCH25 plans to develop a new, open user experience of resource discovery for academic libraries that are part of the M25 Consortium. (The M25 Consortium of Academic Libraries has nearly 60 member institutions based in London and the South East and runs a number of web services including InforM25, a regional resource discovery service.)
 
Looking for a project officer with experience in setting up and assisting with running user focus groups, and other feedback gathering activities. The role will also entail being the designated person for project communications and dissemination, so experience in writing promotional material, training manuals, reports and other documentation is required.
You will be highly motivated to work in a small team, interested in developing new services, able to work on your own initiative and capable of delivering solutions to a strict timescale. You should have at least two years’ experience of working in a library or information service environment, have experience of user evaluation activities, and have strong communication skills. Knowledge of library-specific resources, such as library catalogues and other similar services, would be an advantage.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to further their portfolio of skills and experience.

Basic Function

Create detailed specifications for implementing bibliographic databases and associated features for EBSCO’s online bibliographic products.


Essential Functions


• Analyze business requirements plus third party and in-house data sources to determine the best method of implementing key features for new and existing products within the EBSCOhost environment.
• Write detailed technical database design specifications that instruct software developers how to map bibliographic data sources to EBSCO’s proprietary format; includes writing instructions for mapping data to XML and to MARC21 formats.
• Generate descriptions of required indexing tables; specify search tags and search limiters; map fields for authority files; and specify the database display on EBSCO interfaces.
• Work closely with software developers and quality analysts on product configurations and complex data transformations to ensure accurate technical implementation of database functionality and appearance according to specifications.
• Provide troubleshooting support from a technical design perspective for existing products.



Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two years in the field of librarianship or bibliographic database development or design, including demonstrated experience creating or manipulating bibliographic data in a searchable database environment
•  Minimum of two years of demonstrated experience with web-based bibliographic database search and retrieval techniques
• Minimum of one year demonstrated experience with indexing methods as applied to bibliographic data
• Minimum of one year demonstrated understanding of MARC21 bibliographic format
• Minimum of one year demonstrated experience reading and understanding documents in XML format
• Minimum of one year demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Master of Library Science degree


Preferred Qualifications

Graduate Trainee in the Library
(FT 12 month fixed term position: Salary £15,001)
Applications are invited for the post of Graduate Trainee in the Library of St John’s College, Oxford for the academic year 1st August 2012 to 31st July 2013. St John’s is one of larger colleges in Oxford, with around 600 members. The Library dates back to the 16th century, and has substantial historical collections, whilst also maintaining student-focussed undergraduate collections and services. The Graduate Trainee will be a key member of a small team, fully contributing to the running of the Library on a day to day basis, making the most of the training opportunities provided by the Bodleian Libraries’ trainee scheme, and being able to work independently on special projects.
The successful applicant will be expected to have a good degree, and to be able to show genuine enthusiasm and commitment to a professional career in librarianship and information work. Excellent IT, communication and organizational skills are essential, as are creativity, energy and self-motivation. An appreciation of historical collections and materials and their use is desirable.

Overview of the post:
The Learning Resources Manager will manage and develop further an effective and efficient learning centre for learners and staff, to support curriculum delivery and enable learners to meet their learning goals. The successful candidate will also support and develop the management of University validation and research and development within the college.
The successful candidate will be qualified to Degree level or equivalent and be a Chartered or qualified Librarian or in the final stages of the qualification. You will have experience of computerised library management, previous experience of managing staff and budgets and experience of developing new initiatives.
